Garden

  • Collect seed catalogues and inspirational books so you can dream about next season’s garden
  • Great time to do some learning so you keep getting things better and better. Check out our selection of books and Booklets Charts and Workshops, they are there to support you on this this journey towards regeneration 
  • Spend time on fine days just looking around the garden, observing and remembering what worked, what didn’t, what changes you may like to make
  • If you haven’t already got them draw up some blanks of maps of your garden beds so you can more easily plan next season’s garden, or get the Koanga Garden Planner and spend the Winter  designing your garden so that you are designing for maximum production, nutrient dense food and regeneration all round

Perennials

  • Leave well mulched for Winter .. using Ramial wood chip for thai job means  you are fertilizing the beds a well as mulching

Temperate Forest Garden

  • low root activity now 
  • good time to check all tree labels  

 begin planting  your fruit trees 

  • be sure to do the best possible job of planting your trees, how you plant them will determine how much fruit they produce over their lifetime. See our Koanga Planting Guide and also our Fruit Tree Health Guide
  • Apply tree paste to trunk structure to feed tree

JUNE FIRST QUARTER 

Garden

  • Plan next year’s garden, energy shifts to working in the forest garden now
  • Celebrate the beginning of the gardener’s year and the dream for the season to come

Temperate Forest Garden

  • dig up  any unwanted or trees or trees that need shifting, and have been wrenched
  • Pruning  fruit trees
  • If you have a problem with Silverleaf use our VINE VAX powder as  your tree paste
  • Planting fruit trees this month. To achieve tree health you need soil health, to achieve that you need food for the microbes. Our solution is to plant a lot of support species that can be coppiced and chipped in Winter when dormant to provide Ramial wood chip to feed the fungi. Plant willows poplars especially to do this. 
  • If you don’t have your fungi food in place on your forest floor then we suggest you use our Tricho products to keep disease  away while you create soil health.

June FULL MOON 

Garden

  • Have a well earned rest – enjoy all that summer food and wine that was stored away in the autumn!

Temperate Forest Garden

  • Mark strong clumps of bulbs or clumps that need to be dug and divided to dig later
  • Planting and pruning fruit trees, hedgerow trees, support species, bee forage and shelter trees etc etc 
  • Mulch  and prune feijoas now
  • Also great time to feed trunk structure of trees  with tree paste
