Kotare Village
Embrace a regenerative future!
The Kotare Community Land Trust invites potential settlers to Kotare Village
The village is for those who will imagine and create a culture based on the following values:
A low ‘ecological footprint’ lifestyle
Individual and community self-reliance in food, health, housing, energy and appropriate technologies
Creating a life ‘rich’ in relationships rather than consumerism
The village is 15 years old now and there are approx 20 people living here, and it’s time to expand!
Kotare Village is planned to be a village of 20 – 40 dwellings, alongside the Koanga Institute, and developed over the near future, along with appropriate community facilities
The land is owned by the Kotare Community Land Trust whose role is to:
- Lease autonomous dwelling sites to settlers,
- Develop village infrastructure (roading, water, and community facilities)
- Lease or license land or resources to private enterprises
- Support educational models of regenerative land use
- Invest in all of the above to build self-reliance and resilience
We have developed a structure that both protects the vision of the Trust, and encourages individual involvement and contribution to our economy and community. This can include on-site enterprises, ‘work from home’ enterprises, and retirees. We are particularly interested in bringing in and supporting young families, and those who have a lot of energy for building this project.
Koanga has 5 sites within the village available right now and we would love to connect with those of you we have a lot in common with.
Projects
Koanga has many projects on the go, some focusing on village self-reliance, others on bringing in income. Many of these projects could benefit from partnerships and or businesses working alongside them.
We’d love to hear from you if you have the energy and passion for working with us to develop this village .
Current existing projects that could benefit building partnerships with new families could be:
- Fruit and Vege processors
- Cheese makers/dairy processors
- Educators
- Permaculture Designers
- Appropriate Technology
- Homeschoolers
- Native wetland nursery
- Regenerating our areas and loads of planting
- Natural Building
- Craftspeople
