Description
An ancient relative of the pear, forming a large shrub or small, spreading tree within the rose family.
Grown since Roman times, this traditional fruit has a long history in temperate gardens. The distinctive fruits ripen late and are harvested into winter, then left to “blet”, a natural softening process where the flesh becomes rich, aromatic, and edible. Once bletted, the flavour develops into a unique, spiced sweetness valued in traditional food culture.
