We now offer more and more cultivars as seedlings. We are doing this because we believe them to be a superior way to grow our genetically stable heritage varieties. Modern peaches do not grow true in the same way, and so we trial all cultivars before offering them to you. The trees are stronger and more disease resistant, but grow in size to be somewhere in between the smaller Marianna rootstock and the larger peach rootstock. We tip the central leaders in the nursery to produce a low branched tree most suitable for home gardeners. This seedling has been grown in the open ground.

Description
Large white flesh peach with green skin, old fashioned marooney red blush (very unusual colouring) , free stone, red around stone, elongated shape with curl on bottom outstanding flavor. It is interesting to us that in all of our travels and heritage tree collecting, this tree is nothing like any others we have seen. Possibly because it came to NZ with a Frenchman and family to an orchard near Kohukohu, and was taken by Ken Vincent who owned that orchard to Kaitaia where it has been over the past 30 years. Not a lot of French settlers came to NZ in the period 1860-1900. There were other trees in that orchard eg the Transparent Gage that we have never seen elsewhere as well. Maybe we have a French collection to match the Scottish, and Dalmation, Bohemian, Chinese etc.
Came from the original French settlers orchard near Kohukohu, and was taken by Ken Vincent who owned that orchard in more recent times to Kaitaia where it has been over the past 30 years.
Ripe February.
