Description
Boysenberries are a cross between blackberry and raspberry, producing rich, dark berries full of flavour and antioxidants. They grow like blackberries, with long arching canes that are best trained on a frame or fence.
Modern boysenberries are thornless but often lack the depth of flavour of the old types. We stick with heritage cultivars which are very thorny, but easy to manage with leather gloves and good training. They suit warm summers and reasonably mild winters, and fruit about 10 days before raspberries, usually mid-December, just in time for Christmas.
