Description: Climber, green snap, dry bean. Gifted by Liz. It was given to Liz by an old chap in Wairoa. It is a climbing bean and when it looks over mature i.e. bumpy it is ready to cook. She cooks them whole with a dash of water, knob of butter, and 1/2 tsp. honey. Also a good dry bean. We think this bean may be another one of the beans that were called ‘frost’ beans in England once because they crop heavily at the end of the season just before the frosts and are best when eaten when they are very bumpy with a mealy flesh around the seed, similar our other NZ heritage beans Dalmatian Pean and Bi Colour Pean.

Planting Instructions: Scatter sow into seed trays and transplant at 10 cm spacing under trellis as soon as second leaves appear. This will avoid all problems with birds, slugs, snails and rotting in cold ground.
