This rhubarb was gifted to Koanga before 2000, by a member who knew it’s history back to the Chinese market gardening days in Pukekohe area. It apparently came over from China with the families who were market gardening in that area and became well known in the wider area as the Chinese rhubarb. It is a beautiful red stemmed cultivar, super large leaves and stems, with almost year round growing season.

Planting Instructions: Rhubarb is a heavy feeder that requires rich moist soil. Adding manure to the soil before planting is recommended as is mulching and making sure it is kept watered in dry weather. Best grown in partial shade. Space plants at about 75cms apart.
