Kōanga BIOBREW: Supercharged Microbe-Rich Soil Inoculant

Unlock the full potential of your garden with Kōanga BIOBREW, a compost teeming with beneficial microbes, bacteria, and fungi. Crafted in a Johnson-Su Bioreactor over 14 months, our BIOBREW is microBIOMETER tested and shown to contain exceptionally high levels of microbes, with at least 50% being fungi. This rich microbial presence is vital for fostering healthy soil and robust plant growth.

Our test results are off the charts, showcasing unparalleled levels of both microbes and fungi. When integrated into your garden beds in spring or autumn, particularly when planting carbon crops and mulching with Ramial wood chip, or transplanting your seedlings. This past summer, Kay’s garden achieved BRIX levels of 20-30 using BIOBREW, demonstrating the incredible potential of this product.

Why Use Kōanga BIOBREW for Soil Building

Revolutionise Your Garden Soil with Kōanga BIOBREW

At Kōanga we follow a step-by-step program to bring soil alive and grow high BRIX crops. (for details see our Garden Masterclasses, both onsite and online, our Growing Nutrient Dense Food on-line course or the Booklet)

Here are the key steps top building soil:

1. Aerate your soil deeply (if needed, soil must be 50% air)
2. Ensure adequate moisture levels
3. Raise carbon/humus levels by applying compost / biochar etc
4. Build appropriate mineral mineral levels

5. Inoculate with microbes by using our BIOBREW

Microbes will not thrive without the above steps having been done. If you have done them then the microbes could be the icing on the cake. Previously at Kōanga we have focused on the 1-4 tasks but did not see a huge improvement in the soil until we added BIOBREW. The microbes we had previously used as part of fertiliser mixes did not achieve the results we got with BIOBREW.

How and When to Use Kōanga BIOBREW

Optimise Your Garden’s Health with Proper Application

Autumn: Use Kōanga BIOBREW when planting carbon crops or adding Ramial wood chip to your forest garden. This timing ensures the microbes establish themselves in the soil, ready to support your plants through the colder months.

Spring: Apply Kōanga BIOBREW to garden beds and seedlings for optimal plant health. This is the perfect time to kickstart growth and ensure your plants have the strong microbial support they need to thrive.

Application Instructions:

Mix with Water: Follow the instructions on the pack to mix Kōanga BIOBREW with water.

Apply to Garden Beds: Add the mixture to your garden beds to enrich the soil.

Nourish Seedlings: Use the mixture to water seed trays, ensuring your young plants get a strong start.

Forest Garden: Integrate into your forest garden to support diverse plant life.

By following these guidelines, you’ll maximise the benefits of Kōanga BIOBREW and cultivate a vibrant, healthy garden.

TO UNDERSTAND THE GREEN GRAPH:
MBC = Quantity of microbes present
F:B = Fungi to bacteria ratio

When you use a microBIOMETER, you can test either garden bed soil, compost, or a compost tea liquid. Each category has different values from high to low.

When testing compost, such as in our Johnson-Su compost, the readings for the microbial population are as follows:

  • A low reading is 500 µg C/g
  • A medium reading is approximately 1200 µg C/g
  • A high reading is 1700 µg C/g

The reading for the overall microbial population (MBC) in our BIOBREW is off the top of the graph at 2029 µg C/g. This means it has extremely high levels of microbes and, therefore, is potentially a great inoculant. The ratio of bacteria to fungi (F:B) confirms its excellence as an inoculant.

Most of us have way more bacteria than fungi in our garden soils, but we need a lot more fungi.

Our BIOBREW contains very high levels of fungi, as you can see here, at 83%. This is exactly what we need to build balanced microbe populations, soil, nutrient-dense food, human health, and ecological health.
