Description
Umeboshi are fruits common in Japan which are eaten pickled (brined). The word umeboshi is often translated into English as ‘salted Japanese plums’ or ‘sour plums’.
Ume (Prunus mume) which bears the fruit which are pickled is of the genus Prunus and is often called a plum but is actually more closely related to the apricot.
They are very attractive trees which blossom early.
