Description: Sugar snap, 2m. Outstanding sugar snap pea, sent to us by Eileen Russek of Tapu, Coromandel. The seeds were brought from Europe by her husband’s grandparents (early bohemian settlers) in 1863 when they emigrated to the Puhoi Valley. It is a climbing pea to 2m and has outstanding thick crunchy curly podded peas eaten in shell and all. They have two tone pinkish purple flowers.
Planting Instructions: Sow early Spring and Autumn into seed trays to avoid slug, snail and bird problems. Transplant into garden when 5cm high at 5cm spacing in rows 60cm apart. Needs 1.6m high trellis.
