Leave a Legacy for the Future of Food
For thousands of years, seeds have been passed down through generations—each one carrying the story of the land, the hands that nurtured it, and the nourishment it provided. Today, Kōanga Institute is the guardian of Aotearoa’s most globally significant collection of heritage food plants. By leaving a bequest, you become part of this legacy, ensuring that future generations inherit the biodiversity, wisdom, and abundance of our ancestral food systems.
A bequest is a simple and powerful way to continue your values beyond your lifetime. It allows you to support Kōanga’s vital work in seed saving, soil regeneration, and education—preserving the genetic diversity that sustains life and strengthening the resilience of our food systems in an uncertain future.
How to Leave a Bequest
Including Kōanga Institute in your will is straightforward. You don’t need to rewrite your will—simply add a codicil, a legal amendment that specifies your gift. We recommend speaking with your legal adviser to ensure your wishes are clearly expressed and legally sound.
Bequests of any size make a meaningful difference, and you may choose to direct your gift toward a specific area of our work, such as:
- The long-term preservation of heritage seeds
- Research and education on regenerative food systems
- Expanding our collection of heritage fruit trees and perennial food plants
If you wish to discuss how your bequest could be used, we’d love to hear from you. Every gift, no matter its size, contributes to safeguarding our living seed bank and passing forward a future of nourishment and abundance.
A Gift of Gratitude & Remembrance
Letting us know about your bequest is entirely optional, but if you choose to share your plans, we would be honoured to acknowledge your generosity and keep you updated on our ongoing work. All bequest information is treated with the utmost confidentiality, and you may remain anonymous if you prefer.
